Cleaning House

23Now may the God of peace Himself sanctify you entirely; and may your spirit and soul and body be preserved complete, without blame at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ – 1Thessalonians 5:23 NASB

Sometimes I get in the mood to clean up my office – but probably not as often as I should. Things have a way of piling up and need to be removed before it starts all over again. This may involve emptying the trash or vacuuming the cobwebs that have been growing in the corners of the office. If we ignore these items, they can eventually take over our office and impact our lives in unhealthy ways.

In our spiritual lives we need to pay attention and clean house, too. There are unhealthy attitudes and habits that may need to be removed. Oh, we can ignore them or make all kinds of excuses like telling ourselves they are not all that bad, or we will address them some other time. But, if we ignore them long enough, we will forget about them and they just become part of the “office” – the way we live, work, and play.

To take out the trash and clean out the cobwebs in our spiritual lives we need the power of the Word of God and the strength of the Holy Spirit. This kind of cleansing is really deep – it goes from the inside out – starting with our spirit, soul, and body.

Pray and ask God to help you see what needs to be removed through His Word and then ask Him to release the power of His Holy Spirit to help you clean up your spiritual life. Cleaning is not easy, it can take time and effort.

Start cleaning house now and make way for the sanctified life that God wants you to have and enjoy.
