Seeking Opportunities For Evangelism

“Devote yourselves to prayer, keeping alert in it with an attitude of thanksgiving; praying at the same time for us as well, that God will open up to us a door for the word, so that we may proclaim the mystery of Christ, for which I have also been imprisoned; that I may make it clear in the way that I ought to proclaim it.”
– (Scripture penned by the Apostle Paul in Colossians 4:2-4, NASB).

It has been stated that after being a Christian for around two years, most followers of Jesus do not have any unbelieving friends. A follower of Jesus cannot present the gospel to non-Christians if he or she doesn’t encounter them.

Sometime this week, take an inventory of the people you come into contact with on a regular basis. You may interact with co-workers, students, familiar employees at the grocery store, pharmacy, or a favorite retail store. Also, you may see neighbors in their yards or perhaps run into others while taking a walk or exercising. It’s pleasant to wave at others, but it’s even more important to spend time with people outside of your family and friends.

Some followers of Jesus intentionally take some free time each week for opportunities to share Jesus’ love with others. Beforehand, it’s useful to pray and ask God for encounters that He places in our paths to be a witness for Jesus.

Personal Prayer: Dear Father God, help me to be open and available when You bring about opportunities to share Jesus’ love and offer of salvation. Please open my eyes and heart so I may share the good news about Jesus with those You bring across my path. In Christ’s name, Amen.
