Heart to Heart

“On God my salvation & glory rest; The rock of my strength, my refuge is in God. Trust in Him at all times, O people; Pour out your heart before Him; God is a refuge for us.” Ps. 62:7-8

Feeling like you are running on empty – you seem to lack energy & motivation emotionally, physically, & spiritually? Medical doctors tell us the symptoms of being emotionally drained can show up as hypersensitivity, irritability, overreaction, & isolation.

How about being physically spent? The symptoms can be fatigue & lethargy. Even the simplest & most routine activities of life like eating & sleeping can be a challenge. As Pastor Anthony Evans put it, “Your get up & go has come & gone.”

Running on empty spiritually has its symptoms, too. Worship of the Lord no longer brings joy, passion for anything that has to do with the Lord is now just a dim flicker. Loss of direction & purpose in life have become close companions to a critical spirit & growing sense of darkness descends upon the soul gets darker & gloomier by the minute.

As a good friend has reminded me more times than I care to admit, it is time to “re-examine your life & develop a refueling plan.” What might that involve? Changing up the pace of your work, taking a long overdue vacation, intentionally resting, & even playing. And do not forgot “investing” in important activities that are staples to a healthy life – like building & maintaining healthy relationships & keeping up spiritual disciplines like praying & reflecting on God’s Word. Bringing someone along with you to do these things is essential.

Be refueled, recharged, & reengaged in life with God as your refuge!
