Hope of Resurrection

51Behold, I tell you a mystery; we will not all sleep, but we will all be changed. 52in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet; for the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised imperishable, and we will be changed. 53for this perishable must put on the imperishable, and this mortal must put immortality.”

1 Corinthians 15:51-53, NASB

In a week, we will celebrate one of the most high and holy days of the Christian faith – Easter or as some believers refer to it as Resurrection Day. It commemorates the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the grave. We must not forget that the resurrection of Christ also gives us a foreshadowing of our future resurrection transformation, as described in the passage quoted above.

From the Old to the New Testament there are many verses that reveal something about our future resurrection state. For example in Job 19:25-26, 25As for me, I know that my Redeemer lives…26Even after my skin is destroyed, yet from my flesh I shall see God”. In Philippians 3:20-21, 20For our citizenship is in heaven, from which also we eagerly wait for a Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ;  21who will transform the body of our humble state into conformity with the body of His glory, by the exertion of the power that He has even to subject all things to Himself.”

With the fact of Christ’s resurrection and the veracity of Holy Scriptures we have the hope of our future resurrection as well.

And with our ultimate resurrection into the eternal presence of our beloved Savior will come the fulfillment of the promise given in Revelation 21:3-4, “3…and God will be among them, 4and He will wipe away every tear from their eyes; and there will no longer be any death; there will no longer be any mourning, or crying, or pain; the first things have passed away.”

With the resurrection of Christ and our future resurrection assured, the promise of a glorified body with no more illness, pain, suffering and death, our hearts are filled with great anticipation and hope for both today and tomorrow.

A Blessed Easter to All,

Pastor Arnold
