This month, we join millions of Christians, and billions of other people around the world, in celebrating the earthly birth of Jesus. Christmas is a special time, and a memorable holiday. For followers of Christ, it’s an occasion to focus on the love of God, and in particular, the Son of God. The thoughts of Jesus coming down from heaven and living among humans are mind-boggling. The Scriptures help us to understand more about the Person Jesus before His incarnation as the God-man.
Jesus’ Existence Before Time Began
Thus says the Lord, your Redeemer, and the one who formed you from the womb, “I, the Lord, am the maker of all things,
Stretching out the heavens by Myself
And spreading out the earth all alone,” (Isaiah 44:24).
“But as for you, Bethlehem Ephrathah,
Too little to be among the clans of Judah,
From you One will go forth for Me to be ruler in Israel.
His goings forth are from long ago,
From the days of eternity” (Micah 5:2).
“Now, Father, glorify Me together with Yourself, with the glory which I had with You before the world was” (John 17:5).
“I am the Alpha and the Omega, the first and the last, the beginning and the end” (Revelation 22:13).
Jesus the Creator
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was in the beginning with God. 3 All things came into being through Him, and apart from Him nothing came into being that has come into being (John 1:1-3).
He was in the world, and the world was made through Him, and the world did not know Him (John 1:10).
For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes, His eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly seen, being understood through what has been made, so that they are without excuse (Romans 1:20).
15 He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation. 16 For by Him all things were created, both in the heavens and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things have been created through Him and for Him. 17 He is before all things, and in Him all things hold together (Colossians 1:15-17).
God, after He spoke long ago to the fathers in the prophets in many portions and in many ways, 2 in these last days has spoken to us in His Son, whom He appointed heir of all things, through whom also He made the world (Hebrews 1:1, 2).
And “You, Lord, in the beginning laid the foundation of the earth,
And the heavens are the works of Your hands; (Hebrews 1:10).
Truths to Believe and Share With Others
The Old and New Testaments reveal Jesus’ existence prior to His physical birth in Bethlehem. He existed prior to the creation of the universe, and before Adam, the first human. The writings of no other major religion make any claims similar to what the Bible proclaims about the eternality of the Lord Jesus Christ. Jesus is God. Let us worship Him for who He is and what He has done.
