The Greatest Love Gift

For those whom he foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, in order that he might be the firstborn among many brothers. And those whom he predestined he also called, and those whom he called he also justified, and those whom he justified he also glorified.. – Romans 8:29-30 ESV

God’s greatest demonstration of love is through His incredible plan of salvation, offered freely to all who receive Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior. Through His sacrifice on the cross, Jesus secured eternal redemption for those who believe/trust in Him (John 1:12, 3:36; Acts 2:21, 4:12, 16:30-31, Romans 10:9, 13). However, salvation is more than just a single moment, it’s a lifelong transformation that includes four parts.

A. Regeneration

Regeneration, or being “born again,” is a work of God’s grace that transforms believers into new creations in Christ. The Holy Spirit convicts the heart, leading the sinner to change his/her mind (repentance) and embrace faith in Jesus. Repentance and faith go hand in hand. One cannot exist without the other. Repentance is a change from trusting in any human work or anyone/anything else, to faith as a wholehearted confidence in the Lord Jesus as Lord one’s Savior. (John 3:3; 2 Corinthians 5:17; Ephesians 2:8-9; Revelations 3:20)

B. Justification

Justification means an individual is made right with God. It is God’s gracious act of declaring repentant sinners righteous. Through Christ, believers are fully acquitted of their sins and brought into a peaceful and restored relationship with God. It is not something earned but a gift given through faith in Jesus. (John 5:24; Romans 3:23-24. 8:30, 33)

C. Sanctification

Sanctification is the ongoing process of becoming more like Christ. It begins at the moment of salvation and continues throughout life as the Holy Spirit works in partnership with the believer, shaping the saved person for God’s purpose. This journey of faith calls for continuous growth, allowing God’s grace to refine the heart and mind. (1 Corinthians 6:19-20; Galatians 2:20; Ephesians 2:19-22; 1 Thessalonians 5:23-24)

D. Glorification

Glorification is the ultimate fulfillment of salvation. It is the moment when believers enter into their eternal, perfected state in the presence of God. This result is the final reward for those who have placed their faith in Christ—a life free from sin, pain, and sorrow, forever with the Lord. (John 10:28-29; Romans 8:30; Revelations 21-22:5)

Summary

Salvation is God’s free gift that transforms lives. It begins with regeneration (new birth), continues through justification (being made right with God) and sanctification (spiritual growth while on Earth), and is completed in glorification (eternal life with Christ). Salvation is available to all who put their faith in Jesus, by believing/trusting in Him alone for the forgiveness of sins and the gift of eternal life.
