Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you. – 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 ESV
Thanksgiving is more than a day to overindulge on turkey and dessert. It’s a chance to pause and reflect on the countless blessings in our lives. While gratitude should be a daily practice, this special holiday provides a unique moment to take stock of the big and small things that make life rich and meaningful.
Here are some of the big things many of us can be thankful for:
- Family – The people who know us best and love us anyway.
- Close friends – The ones who stick with us through thick and thin.
- Good health – A gift we often overlook until we don’t have it.
- A home – A place to feel safe and build memories.
- A job – The ability to work and provide for ourselves and others.
But beyond the obvious, there are also modern conveniences we often take for granted:
- Running water and working plumbing – Essentials that many still lack.
- Wi-Fi and streaming services – For staying connected and entertained.
- GPS – Helping us navigate the world with ease.
- Digital photos – Snapshots that let us relive cherished memories.
For me, one way to reflect on God’s blessings is by looking through my Google Photos. Scrolling through the year reminds me of the incredible ways God has worked in my life.
This year, I am deeply thankful for:
- God’s hand in ensuring fairness and integrity in this year’s election—a reminder that He is sovereign over all things.
- The opportunity to lead a mission team to Rio Grande City, Texas, where we ran a summer camp. It was a privilege to witness God’s love in action through the lives of the children and team members.
- A memorable family vacation to the Smoky Mountains, where we marveled at the beauty of God’s creation.
- My health, which allows me to serve, and live fully each day.
- The countless blessings, both seen and unseen, that I don’t deserve but am graciously given.
This Thanksgiving, I encourage you to take a moment to reflect on your own journey this year. What blessings—big or small—can you be thankful for? Whether it’s the laughter of your children or grandchildren, the quiet moments of peace, or the grand adventures that come your way.
To God be the glory for all He has done and continues to do.
