Reflecting On God’s Love

A few days ago marked February 14, Valentine’s Day. Valentine’s Day is much like birthdays and Christmases. Some occasions are better than others. Many individuals celebrate this love day, while for others, it’s just another day on the calendar.

Usually when people celebrate Valentine’s Day, the focus tends to be on human love.

Yet, have you heard this statement? If God had a refrigerator, your picture would be on it! Indeed, He loves you and knows your name.

May the following verses from God’s Word, encourage your hearts in relation to God’s love for you.

Your lovingkindness, O Lord, extends to the heavens,
Your faithfulness reaches to the skies (Psalm 36:5).

But You, O Lord, are a God merciful and gracious,
Slow to anger and abundant in lovingkindness and truth (Psalm 86:15).

Greater love has no one than this, that one lay down his life for his friends (John 15:13).

But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us (Romans 5:8).

For I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor any other created thing, will be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord (Romans 8:38, 39).

But God, being rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, even when we were dead in our transgressions, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved), and raised us up with Him, and seated us with Him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, so that in the ages to come He might show the surpassing riches of His grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus (Ephesians 2:4-7).

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to His great mercy has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, to obtain an inheritance which is imperishable and undefiled and will not fade away, reserved in heaven for you, who are protected by the power of God through faith for a salvation ready to be revealed in the last time (1 Peter 1:3-5).

By this the love of God was manifested in us, that God has sent His only begotten Son into the world so that we might live through Him (1 John 4:9).

Human love can be fickled and temporary. But, God’s love is faithful and true.

The Lord’s lovingkindnesses indeed never cease,
For His compassions never fail.
They are new every morning;
Great is Your faithfulness (Lamentations 3:22, 23).

Bible verses are from The New American Standard Bible, 1995.
