Pleasing God

The Bible provides us with truth. God’s Word tells us about Himself, the world, ourselves, and eternity.

As followers of the Lord Jesus Christ we are to be interested in God, His revelation to us in the Scriptures, and living lives pleasing to Him. Here are some selected Bible verses informing us about things that please God.

Worship

30 I will praise the name of God with song,
And exalt Him with thanksgiving.
31 And it will please the Lord better than an ox
Or bull with horns and hoofs (Psalm 69:30, 31).

God’s people praising Him is more important than any animal sacrifice.

Obedience

For this reason we also, since the day we heard about it, have not ceased praying for you and asking that you may be filled with the knowledge of His will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding, 10 so that you will walk in a manner worthy of the Lord, to please Him in all respects, bearing fruit in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God; 11 strengthened with all power, according to His glorious might, for the attaining of all perseverance and patience; joyously 12 giving thanks to the Father, who has qualified us to share in the inheritance of the saints in light (Colossians 1:9-12).

God’s people are to follow the truths of the Bible rather than the ways of the world.

Doing Good

And do not neglect doing good and sharing, for with such sacrifices God is pleased (Hebrews 13:16).

We are not saved by our own good works, but by the great work of Jesus’ death on the cross for us. Yet, following salvation, the Bible informs us of good works we should seek to perform. God will reward us for obeying His Word.

A Special Message to Children

20 Children, obey your parents in everything, for this is pleasing to the Lord (Colossians 3:20).

While living with parents, children are to obey them. The only exception would be if a parent wanted a child to do something the Bible prohibits.

Desiring to Please God

Therefore we also have as our ambition, whether at home or absent, to be pleasing to Him (2 Corinthians 5:9).

People are not robots. We can make choices. Each day we should have as our goal to follow His Word and please Him.

Living our lives according God’s truth is not only best for us, but as Hebrews 11:6 indicates above, God will reward us for following His Word. What an incredible win-win!
